More Street View in more Countries

]]> Yes! Finally, almost half of the Netherlands is now covered in Street View, including some parts of the city where I live, Zwolle. This is what the LatLong blog reported yesterday. More Street View cities have become available in the Netherlands and Spain. Apart from that Google also announced that Street View imagery is now available in Hawaii!

This year I will be attending and speaking at SMX Stockholm. There you will find me presenting a Local Search business case with one of our clients; Boat Company Lovers. My fellow speaker will be Jaap Dijkstra, Business Developer at  Boat company Lovers –  one of the leading companies organizing Canal Cruises in Amsterdam. Some of the projects he is currently working on are the world’s first purpose build Fuel Cell passenger ship and an amphibious coach called Floating Dutchman, which will show passengers transferring through Amsterdam Airport Schiphol the city of Amsterdam.

Wanted to share this one as it is an approach to make everything more local and apply some metadata to information on the web, trying to structure it. One of the important things of the semantic web; structured information.
They even made it easy for you; enter your location or browse the map, easy japanesey! The location will also appear in your RSS feed.

Hooray for more structured data!
Did you know Google is already showing attempts of structured data in the Search Engine Result Pages?
Try a search for ‘Queen of the Netherlands‘ and you will notice that Google is using taxonomies (Queen: Beatrix) on unstructured data.

Yelp, one of the biggest review sites in US is coming to the UK. Hopefully rest of Europe will be next, but will they be able to gain ground? Qype, touchlocal and some other more local oriented players already have quite a strong user base so will Yelp be able to set foot into this continent? If they use the same pro-active approach (by calling people) as in the United States we might be surprised.

Thus, I welcome the news to use Yelp in Europe, both for gathering reviews and citations. It will make a good addition to the list I presented in this post about Local Search Citations in Europe on David Mihm his blog.

]]> David Mihm, already wrote about citation sources for Local SEO. These citations can help you in your efforts to get better rankings in the SERPS. David contacted me about the guide to international citations he planned to publish and I was happy to do some research in this issue. With a special focus on the (western-) European market I was able to create an overview with some good citation sources for the European market to get things rolling.
